This is the web site of the group operating at INAF Trieste and dealing with four main technical research areas: astronomical archives, Virtual Observatories, grid and HPC, Planck mission.

From the historical point of view, astronomical databases and more in general archiving systems for astronomy was the first activity of the group. This activity is active since the beginning of  the 90’s. A big project carried out in this area is the archive (at telescope) of the TNG as well as the long term archive of it. More recently the group is in charge of the construction of the LBT/LBC archive at Mt. Graham. The main activity now is related with the INAF centre for Astronomical Archives (IA2) which hosts the TNG Long-Term Archive.

We are leading the Italian virtual observatory (VObs.it) and are involved in several International projects and working groups; the interaction between the VO and the Grid is one of the main topics where we are present and where we bring our big expertise.

We lead several Grid related projects in INAF being involved in the fundamental activity of training and dissemination. Thanks to the expertise acquired in this technology we organized and will organize in the future training events both for astronomers and site managers. We participated to the GRID.IT project (FIRB funded) and led the DRACO project. We are present now in EGEE in the effort of gridifying Planck simulations. We have a key role in the effort of building a bridge between the Virtual Observatory and the Grid so that astronomers may rely on an integrated working environment for their everyday work. To do that we are present in the IVOA working groups where a VObs centric approach is pursued, but also in GGF to promote a Grid centric approach thanks to the G-DSE technology developed by ourselves.

Finally we host and lead the Planck LFI Data Processing Centre where the entire data processing of the mission will take place. We are in charge of collecting software packages developed by Planck contributors and test them to be later integrated in the general Planck pipeline. More generally we are in charge of organizing levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Planck DPC. We are running now and testing the whole set of software produced in the framework of level S. We actively participate to the ground-based test of the instrument (Level 1).
